Animal Lover Series

I believe personal projects are the key to a designer's sanity. It was due time to get back into some digital illustrations, so, in the spirit of spring, I decided to make a series of animals in love. The project was inspired by my brother and sister-in-law's bunnies, Tupelo & Chewy. The bunnies act more like an old married couple than honeymooners, but they're still clearly infatuated with one another. In my illustration, they're encircled with blooming flowers, trickling vines and butterflies.

HGTV Mention

I was traveling through Vietnam when I got a notification on Instagram. My friend had tagged me in a photo of an HGTV magazine spread from their April issue. It took me a half a second to realize that my Watercolor Burst rug was one of the featured items! Since that issue, my sales of that design have skyrocketed. Thanks for the love, HGTV!

Earth Day with Tinselbox

I'm thrilled to be Tinselbox's featured artist this month! Tinselbox is a subscription service that sends out hand-curated gift boxes every month. I partnered up with them to celebrate Earth Day– their April box includes my "Treat Yo Self" reusable tote bag, printed locally in KC by screenprinting superstars Seen Merch. Their monthly packages are chock-full of artisanal goodies and surprises. In addition to my "Treat Yo Self" tote bag, this month's box included die cut seed boxes (chives, mint and tomatoes) + starter pots, a journal made from a repurposed library book, and Earth Day stationery. Definitely a good haul!

Humans of New York

Inspiration can come in some of the unlikeliest places. I was scrolling through one of my favorite blogs, Humans of New York, when I spotted Patricia and Howard, one charismatic couple. I couldn't decide what I liked more: their style or their story.

I was scrolling through the Instagram feed of Young House Love, a hugely successful lifestyle blog, when I came across my artwork on their walls. I'm a huge fan of their blog & aesthetic, so I was jazzed to see that they'd picked out one of my pieces. CatCoq x Design Milk x Casetify

Every month, Design Milk highlights an artist for their long-running Designer Desktops series. Design Milk is a renowned design resource with over a million Twitter followers & over two million page views a month. In December, I was hand-picked to kickoff their 2016 Designer Series. I was ecstatic. I partnered with Design Milk to create a custom desktop + mobile wallpaper as well as product designs, including phone cases, MacBook sleeves, and Apple Watches for the Casetify x Design Milk Collection.

CatCoq x Madewell: Pop-Up Shop

When Madewell announced they were opening up a new store at the Kansas City Plaza, I was thrilled! (I'm a huge fan of their modern aesthetic & quality denim.) Shortly before their launch, Madewell approached me to partner with them and host a pop-up shop to celebrate their new location. Madewell has become a champion of supporting local artists, and a couple months later, I was setting up shop in their new store for a one-day event.

CRAFTing it up in KC

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to open up a booth alongside about a hundred KC-local artists, artisans and vendors during the CRAFT pop-up event, hosted by Chick Events. It. Was. Epic.

In addition to loads of local talent, CRAFT drew in plenty of KC food & drink vendors as well. By the end of day one, I was stuffed with some of KC's best offerings: Oasis Food's hummus, a cheese plate from Green Dirt Farm, some tasty treats from Dolce Bakery, and plenty of Boulevard beer. Yum.

Red Dirt Shop: Goods for Good

I was thrilled to partner with Kansas City's Red Dirt Shop to stock their shop with new products. Red Dirt has a "Goods for Good" initiative– with every product they sell, Red Dirt in turn partners with Water.org to fund one year of clean water access for someone in need.

RAW Artists Show in KC

In July, I participated in the RAW Artists Show at The Guild in Kansas City. I've attended so many design events at this stellar downtown event space, so it was awesome to finally set up shop & host a booth of my own. The night included live music, a fashion show and a great variety of local talent showcasing their work. Well done, KC!

Monster Drawing Rally

I had the pleasure of participating in the Monster Drawing Rally's sixth annual event during KC Design Week. I worked alongside a ton of local talent during the live art event, focused on raising money for the Women in Design Scholarship. Together, we raised about $4,000, one of their best years to date.

Volkerfest

Hand-Lettering @ Kansas City Design Week

In prep for KC Design Week 2014, I was asked to participate in the Opening Party by hand-letting the live tweets during the event. I worked alongside KC's top lettering artists: checking tweets, spilling drinks and having a pretty awesome night in general. Overall, I learned that you guys tweet out some pretty weird shit. 👏 Epic night, Kansas City.
